Textural Clay Box

PROJECT DESCRIPTIONCreate a 4-5" cube then incorporate texture and/or pattern onto the surface. You will then convert the cube into a box. 

Requirements:
Prep:
Google doc printed with 8 examples of textures you might like to recreate on project- daily grade

Forming:
5" and square
Surface is completely covered with texture and/or patterns
Lid is cut from cube
No obvious cracks
Feet and handle- extra credit

Surface:
Glaze is the proper thickness

Pacing and Instruction

DAY ONE:
  • Roll out slabs 
  • Use template to cut out 6 even sides
  • Stack slabs with paper towels in between
DAY TWO:
  • Re-cut squares to make sure they are all square and the same.
  • Cut a 45 ° angle on all side of slabs​

DAY THREE - FIVE:
  • Start pressing side together and support with coils
  • Smooth out sides and surface using metal rib
DAY SIX & SEVEN:
  • Add coils to surface to create sections on cube.
  • Make sure that all sides have at least two sections of coil.
​DAY EIGHT - TEN:
  • Add textures to different sections of cube
  • Make sure to balance out:
                   Round balanced to square
                   Smooth balanced to Rough
